It is unbelievable that the Texas Legislature allows the Texas House Speaker to strong-arm fellow legislators into pledging their votes for the House Speaker’s Race in 2013 before the current session has even ended.
This practice is unethical and perhaps even illegal and it is time for members of the Texas Legislature to pledge their support to their citizen constituents, not the power brokers in Texas business and politics!
Time to end corruption in Texas politics.
As the Texas State Legislature drew to a close in 2011, the House Leadership began pressuring House members to sign “pledge cards,” which are pledges of loyalty to the current House leadership.
AGAIN WE SAY TO TEXAS HOUSE REPRESENTATIVES IN 2013: “CONSERVATIVE SPEAKER OR YOUR SEAT.”
How quickly they forget about the wrath of angry voters!! The first vote of the 2013 session WILL BE the most important vote they cast – just as it was in 2011. Their first vote will determine whether or not a well funded challenger will line up against them in future Republican primaries.
We believe our elected public servants owe their loyalty to THE PEOPLE rather than to the House leadership. If you agree, contact your Texas Representative and demand that they refuse to sign pledge cards to Speaker Straus or any future speaker prior to the vote in January.
